The wines of the Pilat are of an exceptional growth by the appelation of Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Saint-Joseph and Château-Grillet.
Travel through breathtaking vineyards
The terrace landscape with dry stone walls and staircases resonate with the labour of generations of winegrowers.
This unique terroir is the cradle of two illustrious varieties of grape found throughout the world: Syrah and Viognier. Three appellations - Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu and Saint-Joseph - cover this exceptional territory, producing rare and renowned wines.
Condrieu, Saint-Joseph and Côte-Rôtie, a story written in ancient times in the Pilat!
In the 2nd century BC, the Roman army settles in Vienne, and the first Côte-Rôtie wines or "vins de vienne" travel throughout the Roman world.
The Northern Rhône Valley wines’ names spread throughout the Middle Ages, along with the wine. At the court of Charlemagne, the "vin des Mauves" is renamed wine of Saint-Joseph by the Jesuits.
From Ampuis to Saint-Pierre-de-Boeuf and as far as the Pelussinois high plateau, the vines run on steep slopes. These peculiar lines which undulate on the hillside rise, altogether make majestic terraced vineyards, where each metre of cultivation bears witness to the determination of men to transform this harsh land into fertile soil, home of the AOP Condrieu, Côte-Rôtie and Saint-Joseph wines.
The wines of the Northern Rhône Valley have found no equal ! They constitute a palette of aromas to be discovered at the producers.
Behind the characteristics and standards specific to each of the AOCs: landscapes, beautiful stories and a passionate determination to give the wines produced in the Pilat, a special place in the prestigious family of Côtes-du-Rhône.
