Relais vélo

RELAIS VELO is a network of tourist establishments which can supply tourists and cyclists with specific needs (garage, repair kit, advice and information on the circuits, rental, guides, etc).

The creation of this network is part of the sustainable development strategy of the Pilat Regional National Park, and therefore contributes to the development of a tourism associated with ecomobility and environmentally-friendly transport.

Maps and topo-guides

Mountain bike information

For mountain bike enthusiasts the Pilat has 650 km of marked paths, identified by brown arrows on a white background, 31 interconnecting loops, clearly described in a topoguide and plotted on the Parc du Pilat map, scale 1:50 000.

There are 2 specially-adapted slopes, near the Graix ski lift, for downhill mountain biking. (link to the page « Downhill mountain biking » under the heading "thrills and spills")

Cycling information

The gateway to the cycling capital, the Massif du Pilat has traditionally been pedalled by cyclists, notably as early as 1881, by Paul de Vivie 'Vélocio', the founder of cyclo-tourism, and shift gear mechanism.

The Pilat Challenge

The Pilat Challenge is open to all cyclists who want to put themselves to the test.

Each of the 4 stages of the Challenge mounts to the Col de l'Oeillon by a different slope. This is a sports event for experienced cyclists, covering a moderate distance but with steep gradients. Depending on your fitness level and your taste for adventure, you can do the 4 stages in 4 days, 2 days or less.

In whichever case don't forget to share your experiences with us!

La Grande Traversée (Great Crossing)

La Grande Traversée du Pilat (Pilat Great Crossing) is divided into 5 étapes and criss-crosses most of the PIlat Natural Parket. It journeys over mountain passes of varying degrees of difficulty and through a wide variety of landscapes. Cyclists should be in good physical shape and practice cycling regularly since the Pilat is a middle mountain zone with quite steep gradients.
